Free Recycling Event at Mercer Stadium

The City of Sugar Land is hosting a recycling collection event in the Mercer Stadium parking lot this Saturday, April 21st. The event will run from 10 AM to 2 PM. Mercer Stadium is located at 16403 Lexington Blvd. Many types of items will be accepted. Farmer’s Market Coming to Imperial Sugar Land

Each Saturday through December 10th, from 9AM to 1PM, the Fort Bend County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Farmer’s Market at Imperial Sugar Land, located at Hwy 90 and Hwy 6. Read more about it here:

Not A Best Kept Secret – Fernando’s Restaurant

Fernando’s, a Latin cuisine restaurant, located at 14135 Southwest Frwy. in Sugar Land is an amazing dining experience. There never seems to be a full house when we have dined there and we just can’t seem to figure out why. They have impeccable service, excellent decor, and the food, well, I am a big fan and have heard nothing but excellent reports from anyone who has paid them a visit. You really should give them a try.

Dinner entrees are priced from about $16 to $50. Salads, pasta, fish, chicken and steaks. I try something different each time and have never been dissappointed.

They are open for lunch Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, dinner Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 9:00 PM, Fridays and Saturdays 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM. Take a look at their website for a complete menu: http://fernandosrestaurants.com/

The Houston area seems to be coming into its own with respect to the microbrewery/craft-brewing scene. The city of Stafford will be getting its first microbrewery opening soon. Implosion At Imperial Sugar Refinery Successful…Eventually

The implosion of the two buildings that were scheduled for this morning at the Imperial Sugar company Refinery was eventually successful. One structure collapsed as scheduled in the 7:00 AM detonation. Another set of charges was detonated on the second structure and it still didn’t come down. At around 8:30 AM, the second structure just collapsed without intervention.

StarTex Power Gets Naming Rights For Sugar Land Skeeters Stadium

It was announced today that the Houston-based electricity provider, StarTex Power, will be the naming rights partner for the new stadium hosting the Sugar Land Skeeters AAA baseball team. The new stadium located at State Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 90A, will be named “StarTex Power Field”. The first baseball season for the Skeeters will be 2012.

Imperial Sugar Co. Implosion Rescheduled

The implosion of two buildings at the Imperial Sugar Co. refinery on Hwy 90A, that was scheduled for last weekend, has been postponed until Sunday December 19th at 7:00 AM. It is suggested that you arrive early if you are going to attend the event as there will be several streets blocked-off around the immediate area. More on the City of Sugar Land website here:
